Born
& Bought up:
Prashant Salil was born in Gwalior, a place
well known for its rich tradition in Indian
Classical music. His parents were actively involved
in the field of art, literature and music. His
mother Late Dr.(Mrs.) Shyama Salil was an accomlished
Sitar player and was disciple of Late Pt.Lalmani
Mishra. At a very young age he inherited their
talent and shortly was initiated into formal
training of vocal music under the guidance of
Pt.Sripad Devkar of Gwalior gharana. He learned
Sitar from his mother and later from Pt. Vinayak
Phadke. Still in his teens he formed his own
choir group 'AALAP' and started performing on
the stage. radio and T.V.
Santoor in His
Life:
His fascination for the rare and sweet instrument
SANTOOR brought him to Mumbai where he started
learning from great exponent of music, world
renowned Pt. Shivkumar Sharma. In the year 1986,
recognising his talent, Madhya Pradesh Kala
Parishad awarded him Scholarship for three years
for advance training in music under the guidance
of Pt. Shivkumar Sharma.
Professional
field of Music:
Being in Mumbai he was exposed to the professional
field of music and in the year 1989 became the
member of Cine Musicians' Association. Apart
from giving his solo performances he has also
been playing regularly for the recordings of
films, T.V. serials and jingles. Innovative
by nature he also designed his own instruments,
experimented and made lots of changes in Santoor.
Persuing his career as a santoor player he is
also involved in composing and arranging a lot
of music albums. His released albums as a Santoor
player are 'SEASONS', 'MOODS AND MOMENTS' to
name a few.
